How this map is made

Each entry is summarised in our own words from one specific page published by UNESCO, UNRWA or UN OCHA, linked under the entry. Facts not found in that page are not included.

Refugee camp entries give historical and geographic context only. They are not shelters, safe areas or guidance. Humanitarian entries carry the date the source describes and are never updated automatically.

No incident markers, counters or historical boundary overlays are drawn. Background map © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), shown with Leaflet (BSD-2). Sources last reviewed 11 October 2026.

How humanitarian reports are collected and matched

Reports come from public feeds of UN and humanitarian bodies (including ReliefWeb's occupied Palestinian territory feed, which carries OCHA, UNRWA, WHO and partner reports), checked on the same schedule as our news, about every 10 minutes. The panel shows only each report's title, publisher, dates, link and region badges — no report text, because partner content may be copyrighted. Read the full report at the source. The list draws on up to the latest 150 collected reports.

Region badges are added automatically and conservatively: a report is tagged Gaza Strip, West Bank or East Jerusalem only when its own title or the feed's summary text (used internally, not shown) names that region or a well-known city or camp in it. Plain "Jerusalem" is not enough. Reports naming no region stay unlocated.

A badge means the report discusses that region — not that something happened at a point. Clicking it only moves the map to the region; no report is ever turned into a marker. "Latest" means published in the past 7 days. Feed health is on the status page.
